CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet Review | My Results After 6 Months

currentbody led hair growth helmet review

I'm sure you all know by now just how much I love red light therapy for my skin, so I was really excited to try the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet* (and don't forget, you can use my code DANIELLEBB for 10% off on the website!). I have consciously been trying to up my haircare game over the last few years by using less heat, incorporating hair masks, paying more attention to scalp care and actually making it to the hairdresser a couple of times a year (which is enough for me, even if my hairdresser would probably disagree!). Anyway, having seen GREAT results with my CurrentBody LED Face Mask, I was excited to see what the red light therapy could do for my scalp and hair! Before we get to that, let's dive into what the helmet is made up of and how it works!

The CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet £649.99 | $1,049.99 CAD | $859.99 USD* uses 120 evenly spaced LED’s operating at clinically proven red light wavelengths of 620 - 660nm (nanometers) which is recognised as the most effective range for supporting hair growth and scalp health. The lower range 620nm wavelength helps to improve scalp health by promoting circulation, and the higher 660nm wavelength penetrates deeper to stimulate growth and repair at the follicle root. Together, these wavelengths are designed to support improved hair condition, density and thickness over time. The helmet is available in 2 sizes - medium and large, and only needs to be used for 10 minutes per day. CurrentBody recommends consistent use for 12-16 weeks, after which, most users should begin to notice thicker, fuller-looking hair and improvements in overall hair quality.

A clinical study has shown the helmet supports the following:

  • Increase scalp hydration by 15%
  • Reduce oiliness by 61%
  • Reduce hair breakage by 22%
  • Deliver 123% increased hair growth
  • Reduce hair loss by 72%

I should preface this by saying I am probably not the usual target audience for this device as I am not suffering significant hair loss or thinning. However, as mentioned at the start, I love red light therapy and am consciously trying to add in devices as well as products to support ageing - and thinking of my hair as well as skin! My hair has always been fine, it’s long with a tendency to have greasy roots and dry ends. Prior to starting the helmet, I noticed I had lost a lot of shine and my hair was prone to breakage. It’s also quite damaged around the front as I do straighten it regularly (though not every day like I used to years ago!)

I would say I use this around 4-6 times per week and have been since April. Consistency definitely is key and while I haven't noticed a dramatic transformation, I have noticed some positive changes. My scalp isn't as itchy or flaky as it was before, my hair seems stronger and shinier, and when comparing photos from April 2026 to October 2026, I was pleasantly surprised to see that my part appears slightly denser, particularly towards the front where I have the most damage. The difference is subtle, but encouraging to see! While I haven't noticed a huge reduction in shedding, my ends still look full and in good condition despite not having had a haircut since early August.

Overall, I've enjoyed incorporating the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet into my routine. The 10-minute treatment is quick and easy to fit into my day, and because it's hands-free I can potter about and get other things done, which is always a bonus. The built-in Bluetooth headphones are a nice addition, although for such a short treatment I don't always bother connecting them so they aren't essential for me. The battery life is excellent too, with a charge lasting around 10 days for me. I also find it easier to stay consistent with this rather than scalp serums as I don't always enjoy the feeling of products sitting on my scalp or needing to wash my hair more frequently.

Aside from the occasional hair getting caught in the rubber suction cups when removing the helmet, I've experienced no negative side effects. I find wearing my hair in a low ponytail and removing the helmet slowly helps minimise this, and I definitely wouldn't recommend using it with your hair down if it's long and prone to tangling.

If you're experiencing hair thinning, increased shedding or hair loss, you may see more noticeable results than I have. However, even as someone who wasn't dealing with those concerns, I’m happy with the improvements in my scalp health and the overall condition of my hair! If you're already a fan of red light therapy and are looking to invest in your long-term hair and scalp health, I think the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet is well worth considering.

If you're new to red light therapy and are deciding where to start, I'd also recommend checking out my review of the CurrentBody LED Face Mask, which I've personally seen more noticeable results from. If you're thinking about trying the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet, don't forget you can save 10% with my code DANIELLEBB on the CurrentBody website. Considering the investment, it's a nice saving if you've already been thinking about adding it to your routine. If you're planning to shop during the upcoming Black Friday sales, my discount code has increased to 20% off in the previous years so it may be worth keeping an eye out for even bigger savings! Have you tried LED light therapy?
