Best Beauty Discoveries 2022 | Skincare

Happy New Year! I have a quick little series on my best beauty discoveries from last year coming so will get makeup and haircare up soon but first, my skincare picks! I usually also have body care but I didn’t try many new things this year so my old favourites are the same! As always, these aren’t necessarily all new releases but they were new to me this year!

2022 best skincare

Starting with cleansers, and I have really been enjoying the Dear Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil RRP $30 as a first cleanse. It spreads easily, removes makeup with ease, emulsifies, doesn’t sting my eyes and is affordable! I don’t get any scent from it and it leaves my skin feeling clean and hydrated with no film left behind! For my second cleanse or morning cleanse, I have been reaching for the Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser RRP £43*. This one lightly lathers and feels gentle despite containing physical as well as chemical exfoliants and has really been helping to keep my skin smooth and give me a good base for the rest of my skincare and makeup application!

charlotte tilbury glow toner review

Toner wise, the Charlotte Tilbury Glow Toner RRP £40* really stood out to me. It’s a lovely, thick, milky formula that my skin has been drinking up! It is acid free and contains niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, peptides and ingredients to exfoliate and help minimise the look of pores. My skin looks smooth and plump while using this and it’s definitely made me want to try more CT skincare! See more in my Summer Standouts post here!

Moving onto serums and the Bondi Sands Skincare Thirsty Skin Hyaluronic Acid RRP £8.99* was my favourite HA this year. It’s a gel formula so a little thicker than a standard serum and it spreads easily over my skin leaving it feeling soft and supple, locking in moisture and plumping and filling out my fine lines! As well as HA, it also contains glycerin and it has a great price and cute packaging, definitely one to try! See my full review here!

I’ve also really enjoyed the COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence RRP £24 for hydration as well. Since moving back to Canada that’s been top of my skincare needs list! This has an interesting texture that looks like it’s going to be sticky but it’s not at all. While I wouldn’t quite put it into the cult status as a lot of people have, it is a great hydrator and smoother and I have really appreciated having it in my routine this winter!

The Theramid Ceramide Treatment RRP $52* is a thick serum that contains ceramides, antioxidants, cica and glycerin and has been a perfect buffer for me under retinol keeping my skin hydrated and protected! It provides extra comfort to my skin in winter and I am so impressed with this brand, I will do a full review on the products I was sent soon but this one is the standout!

The Murad Vita-C Glycolic Brightening Serum RRP £82* is probably my favourite skincare find of this year! Initially, I was worried about the addition of glycolic acid in case it caused irritation but I’m happy to say it hasn’t. This is a powerhouse antioxidant serum and after struggling with Vitamin C formulas that help brighten but don’t do much for specific areas of pigmentation, this worked better than I thought possible. The inclusion of glycolic acid gently exfoliates, making my skin smoother and helping ensure effective Vitamin C delivery. The Vitamin C in question is L-ascorbic acid, known for being the most effective as well! The serum itself has a light citrus scent and absorbs quickly and I have noticed stubborn pigmentation really lifting with consistent use! My skin is also much brighter and more even and despite being the priciest of the items I am featuring today it really has made a difference and my first bottle lasted months, so I think it’s worth the investment! Read more here!

Onto moisturisers and The Inkey List Omega Water Cream RRP $14.49* was my summer moisturiser of choice! It’s a lightweight, water-based gel that contains three omegas to help prevent water loss as well as glycerin and niacinamide. It sinks in quickly leaving no white residue behind (I’m looking at you Vitmain B, C and E moisturiser), works well under makeup and my skin feels hydrated all day long. Definitely the best moisturiser The Inkey List do! Read moreabout it here!

Something a bit heavier now and the Murad Intense Recovery Cream RRP £78* is my nightly moisturiser of choice this year! It is the ultimate comfort blanket for stressed out, dehydrated, sensitive skin and contains shea better, macadamia oil and microalgae extract to provide deep moisturisation and smooth the look of stress lines as well as reducing redness and irritation. My skin was really playing up at the start of last year and was red, inflamed, itchy and flaky and this came to the rescue! It feels instantly soothing on stressed skin and is so comforting! It reduced my redness as well as hydrating my skin and getting it back to normal. It feels like more of a balm than a cream and it melts into skin keeping it hydrated and protected overnight, a must have for sensitive skin!

Finally, my favourite SPF of last year was the Murad City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50 RRP £66*. This is a mineral sunscreen that shields against UVA, UVB, pollution and digital blue light damage. The formula is lightweight and has a peachy tint that is easily worked into the skin leaving no white cast (I have pale skin for reference). It sits well over the rest of my skincare as well as under makeup and I love that its SPF 50, my skin feels protected and the formula is beautiful, I haven’t found any difficulty rubbing in or pilling issues either! Read more here!

So that brings us to the end of my best skincare discoveries of this year! Did you see any of your favoruites? Let me know what products you loved this year!

Product Empties #43

product empties daniellesbeautyblog

Welcome back! I haven’t been very active lately but I have a couple of posts planned then I might disappear again, we’ll see! This is a positively tiny empties post for me but I did two huge batches just before I left for Canada in September and I mainly brought new/full products with me. That, as well as being on a bit of a roll with hauling lately, has meant it’s taking me a lot longer to finish products up that I would like. I want to start fresh in the new year though so it’s time to go through my trash!

haircare empties daniellesbeautyblog

Haircare

Schwarzkopf got2b Dry Shampoo

One of my favourite budget dry shampoos – I brought this over with me from home and it works really well as absorbing oil and doesn’t leave a white cast! Would repurchase!

TRESemme Volume Dry Shampoo

A Canadian purchase (and one I had to check the batch code for due to a recall – read more here). Another nice budget option that absorbs oil and leaves no white cast but the recall has made me rethink purchasing this again! I do have another bottle to get through and my products were not affected so I probably will repurchase in the future.

Living Proof PhD Dry Shampoo

Pricey but the best dry shampoo I have used - like the more affordable ones, this absorbs oil and leaves no white cast but it also leaves my hair with volume and its effects last longer and I don’t have to use as much! I got a good offer on this during the Sephora sale so stocked up on a few more sets!

Bodycare

Nivea Crème Aloe Hydration Body Wash

Fresh aloe scent and this huge bottle lasted me ages! Already repurchase in the classic Nivea scent which I prefer!

Nivea Smooth Body Lotion

One of my favourite moisturisers, this smells so fresh and clean and absorbs quickly leaving my skin moisturised. Will repurchase!

Morrocanoil Body Polishing Scrub

Tiny sample so only got a few uses out of this but I really enjoyed it! It smells luxurious and felt very hydrating due to the oils but there was also a good amount of scrub! Would repurchase if on a good offer!

Necessaire The Body Serum

My favourite Necessaire product though pricey for what it is! it’s a hyaluronic acid treatment that’s a gel formula and it absorbs into the body quickly. I do think this helps with extra hydration but while it feels luxurious, I don’t see a massive difference in this compared to when I use a budget HA so not a repurchase for me! See my Necessaire review here!

Skincare

NIOD Sanskrit Saponins*

I really like this cleanser and have been through a few tubes now! It’s not a makeup remover so works best as a second or morning cleanse. It has a bit of a funky scent but works well to clarify and make pores look minimised and it doesn’t dry out the skin! Will repurchase in the future! See my full review here!

Nivea Double Effect Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover

I have lost count of how many bottles of this I have gone through, it’s an absolute must have if you wear waterproof mascara! It removes it with ease and a bottle lasts a decent amount of time. It’s more expensive in Canada than the UK but worth every penny! I have found Amazon to be cheapest when purchasing it here and I already have a backup! See my full review and some other budget skincare picks here!

Murad Correct & Protect Serum Broad Spectrum SPF 45*

I really didn’t want to like this one as at £68 for 30ml it ain’t cheap but it’s gorgeous!

As well as offering sun protection this is also a hybrid product that has been proven to correct discolouration and prevent future hyperpigmentation! When I first rubbed it into my skin it felt a little on the greasy side, so I was worried and while it’s a white liquid, once it’s rubbed in, it left no white cast (I have fair skin for reference) and there was no pesky pilling! Makeup applies so well on top and looks smooth and it feels so hydrating as well as no stinging round my eyes! Out of my price range right now but I would love to repurchase in the future! See my full review here!

Fresh Soy Face Cleanser

A lovely lightweight, cucumber scented, balancing, non-drying cleanser. I have another mini to get though of this but would consider a repurchase in the future of the full size! See my fulll review here!

Bondi Sands Thirsty Skin Hyaluronic Acid*

One of the best budget hyaluronic acids I have tried! This is one of the thickest formulas I have tried, and I love the gel texture! It spreads easily, leaving my skin feeling soft and supple, locking in moisture and plumping and filling out my fine lines! As well as HA, it also contains glycerin and I will repurchase in the future! Read my full Bondi Sands skincare review here!

Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing Balm

My favourite cleanser! The balm is so luxurious, it melts easily on touch, a little goes a long way and it spreads like a dream. It feels hydrating and balancing and removes heavy makeup as well as waterproof eye makeup with ease. The scent is uplifting and never stings my eyes and it’s well worth the money! Will repurchase! See my full review here!

Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

I think I had another mini of this before and wasn’t that impressed but this time round I loved it! It’s very lightweight so I think it would work better for me in the summer but saying that it did keep my skin hydrated overnight! Would repurchase!

Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Kiss Lip Butter

This jumbo sized lip balm leaves a gorgeous hydrating sheen behind and it lasts so long between top ups! It contains cupuaçu, acai and coconut oil and makes my lips feel so soft and I love the scent of the lip butter too – its not overpowering at all and once it’s on you can barely smell it! Will repurchase! Read my full review here!

Burt’s Bees Watermelon Lip Balm*

My favourite lip balm formula in a new scent to me but honestly, I prefer the OG mint, this is a little artificial smelling for me but it’s the same amazing formula that leaves my lips feeling hydrated for hours! Have already repurchase the original mint flavour again! Read my full review here!

purely inspired collagen peptides review

Miscellaneous

Purely Inspire Collaged Peptides

I’m finding it difficult to get a hold of my usual Vital Proteins so switched to this and am enjoying it so far! It doesn’t dissolve quite as well but I mix it well and tend to just down it. My joints always feel much better when I take collagen and I hope it works for my skin too but I don’t notice much difference with that!

So that’s my little end of year empties! I’ll hopefully be back with a bigger batch in the new year! Let me know if you’ve tried any of the products I mentioned and what you thought!

Beauty Spend Report | August 2022

beauty spend report august 2022 daniellesbeautyblog

Another month and another beauty spend report, I have been a little out of control this year and had a treat yoself’ mentality but at the same a time, a lot of the items I purchase are products I have been thinking about for a while and have taken advantage of a good offer before picking up!

next beauty box review

First up was the Next Game Changing Beauty box which was £20 with a value of over £77. It includes minis of my favourite cleanser, the Emma Hardie Moringa cleansing balm, as well as the Philip Kingsely Elasticizer, Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant, Clarins Beauty Flash Balm, Elemis Pro-Collagen Night Cream, Lancome Advanced Genifique Serum and Benefit Roller Lash. We all know I’m a sucker for a beauty box and I particularly wanted minis of the cleansing balm and elasticizer and I’m looking forward to trying the beauty flash balm too! My mum also picked this one up hehe.

tom ford soleil glow bronzer terra

tom ford soleil glow terra bronzer

Moving onto my main purchases this month and honestly, these days I’m not so taken with new beauty launches and have been picking up a few “old school” makeup items to add to my collection. I got myself the Tom Ford Soleil Glow Bronzer in Terra (Small) which is usually £54 but I used an influencer code to get 21% off so it was £42.66. I haven’t used this just yet as it’s been pretty hectic at home, I’m dogsitting and I also got Covid last week. It felt lighter in weight than I thought it would be but I’m not complaining as it will be easier to travel with and it came with a fancy pouch!

I also made a couple of DIOR purchases off Escentual – this has always been a bit of an old fashoned brand to me if I’m honest but I got the Forever Natural Bronzer at Christmas and I love it so wanted to explore the brand a bit more! I also noticed the price increase on the DIOR website but Escentual had these at the old price with a further 20% off so I got the Dior Addict Lip Glow in Rosewood RRP £29.50 (now £30) for £23.60 and the Crème Abricot Fortifying cream for nails RRP £22 (now £25) for £17.60. Definitely not necessities but like I said, treat yoself :P spoiler alert I might have also picked up a few other bits but they will fall into Septembers spend report.

beauty spend report august 2022

Finally, continuing with my SPF buying spree (see last months post) I grabbed the Bondi Sands Hydra SPF 50+ Face Fluid from ASOS as I had a 30% off code so this was £7.70 instead of £11. I had ummed and ahhed earlier in the month when Ultra Violette did their buy one get one free offer ultimately deciding not to bother but Cult Beauty had 20% off and I had a £5 reward burning a hole in my pocket so the Supreme Screen Hydrating Facial Skinscreen SPF 50+ is mine and I got it for £22.16 instead of £34.

daniellesbeautyblog beauty spend report

Overall, this month’s total was £133.72 instead of £170.50 and I’m sure you’ll see some of these pop up in reviews soon! Have you tried any? What was your last beauty purchase?
