Skincare | BeautyBio Review

BeautyBio skincare review the balance quench nightly

Welcome back! When an email asking if I wanted to try some BeautyBio products landed in my inbox last month I was very intrigued! Having seen the brand on my favourite website Cult Beauty I didn’t hesitate to say yes and since I have been testing these out now for about 6 weeks I have some thoughts.

BeautyBio review

First off, a quick history of the brand – founded by Jamie O’Banion in 2011 and short for BeautyBioscience, she worked alongside her father in their cosmetic lab creating formulas for other companies before their own. Their most famous product is the patented GloPRO, an at home microneedling tool. With Truth in Beauty their mission, Beautybio aims to enable customers to get instant results within their own home at a fraction of the cost. For reference, I have acne prone combo skin and at the grand old age of 29 I am starting to worry about fine lines and wrinkles so hydration is an important part of my routine!

This cleanser has been designed to restore the skins ideal pH and so keeps oils at bay and in turn combats blemishes while ensuring the skin doesn’t dry out. It’s a lightweight, slippery gel with a kind of medicated/eucalyptus scent which isn’t for everyone but I personally like. I thought this might sting my eyes as they can be quite sensitive to strong scents but I am happy to report this is gentle enough not to sting them! The gel lathers nicely and my skin never feels stripped or dry after I use it. This is my favourite of the three products I was sent!

The Nightly was the product I was most excited to try, retinol is becoming a staple in my routine and I use it around 2 to 3 nights a week. This is described as an intense and potent serum boosted with deep-release retinol to stimulate cellular turnover and restore a youthful glow, moduline peptides to firm and smooth, and finally, hyaluronic acid filling spheres to draw in moisture to the deepest layers of the skin for plump skin and long-lasting hydration. With such high claims, I feel like I built my hopes up for this up too much. While my wrinkles are not pronounced I do have some fine lines on my forehead, between my eyebrows and one smile line in particular that I am conscious of. I like this product, it does make my skin feel hydrated and it also feels somewhat plumper the next day but I am not blown away by it and I don’t find the results very longlasting. I feel like I see better results from my £9.99 Inkey List retinol which is my only other retinol product currently apart from my prescription strength which I haven’t been using recently.

The moisturiser is described as being an intensely nourishing, rich yet lightweight nourishing cream that delivers instant and long-lasting hydration to parched cells while restoring skin’s healthy bounce. I definitely agree that the cream does feel very rich but nothing about it is lightweight! I found I had to use quite a lot to give my skin the necessary hydration it craves and I would say I have to use more of this than other moisturisers I have. When I used less I found my skin drying out way quicker earlier in the day. By using more my skin does feel better hydrated but it doesn’t really sink in at all leading it to feel quite greasy especially when I don’t have make up on. It also contains dimethicone, a very common ingredient mostly found in primers so I expected it to do a better job under makeup in terms of smoothing fine lines but it didn’t.

BeautyBio the quench moisturiser review

The packaging is very aesthetic but I do think it photographs better than in looks in real life, it feels a little cheaper than it looks if that makes sense as its plastic and shiny. I do like how the moisturiser comes with a little spatula as its more hygienic, the serums airless pump and the cardboard boxes the products are presented in do make it feel more luxe.

BeautyBio say to “prepare for actives that work, mind-blowing results and some of the loveliest formulations around” and while I love this confidence I think maybe it made my expectations too high – that along with the price tag means I was expecting BIG things from these products and while nothing has made me break out (my biggest deal breaker) nothing has wowed me either unfortunately. I will finish these products up but I wouldn’t repurchase them and I do think the price point is too high for the results I have been getting.

All BeautyBio products are free from sulfates, parabens, formaldehyde and they don’t test on animals and the brand is available from the BeautyBio website, Cult Beauty, Selfridges and Harrods.

Have you tried any of these products before? Let me know your thoughts or your favourite retinol product!

Skincare | Dermalogica Biolumin-C Eye Serum Review

Dermalogica biolumin-c eye serum review

The most recent addition to my Dermalogica skincare arsenal is this lightweight Vitamin C filled eye serum. As a member of their Skinfluencer programme this was gifted to me but as always thoughts are my own.

Dermalogica biolumin-c eye serum cream review

First off, I love the marketing campaign for this eye cream – “your eyes never stop moving” – I never thought of it like this before but we’re constantly blinking, squinting and rolling our eyes therefore of course it makes sense to look after them. I have been a regular eye cream user for the past 6 years (see my first eye cream review here!) and always look for something lightweight but hydrating and if it brightens too then all the better!

Dermalogica biolumin-c eye cream review

This eye serum from Dermalogica meets all three of those stipulations and I have really been enjoying it! It contains Vitamin C complex which as well as brightening the under eye area also firms – I don’t suffer massively with dark circles but my under eyes are definitely looking brighter and firmer. Other ingredients include Arjun tree extract and chia seed oil which are rich in antioxidants and tremella mushroom to lock in moisture. My fine lines are not prominent but I am confident this has been doing its job in smoothing them!

Dermalogica biolumin-c eye serum texture

It's so lightweight it sinks in really quickly and it sits well under makeup for me which is great! At £63 for 15ml it ain’t cheap but as you need so little it will last a long time and the eyes really are so important to take care of! If you are younger (than me at 29) or only starting to incorporate an eye cream into your routine you could probably start with something a little more affordable though!

The Dermalogica Biolumin-C eye cream* RRP £63 can be bought directly from their website as well as many UK retailers such as Look Fantastic, John Lewis and Feel Unique and is cruelty free, vegan, paraben free, gluten free and free from artificial fragrances and colours!

Do you like one product reviews? I normally bunch products together and review them at the same time but let me know what you prefer! And tell me your favourite eye cream below!

Five Things I’m Loving | February 2020

Hi guys! Every now and then I realise there are a few products I tend to reach for more than others and when I do I get the urge to write one of these posts! So, without further ado here is what I have been loving recently!

touch in sol no problem primer review

Disciple Dreamy Skin Retinyl Oil has been a constant in my routine for quite a while now and before this full size, I went through a mini. This is amazing for stressed out skin, it’s got rosehip oil and retinyl palmitate among other ingredients so works beautifully to hydrate, and reduce pigmentation and fine lines! It also does very good things to my acne and calms inflammation down overnight. As well as this, is smells like a spa so is instantly relaxing!

gua sha jade roller review

I am obsessed with using this alongside my White Lotus Jade Gua ShaThis is the skincare tool I didn’t know I needed and now couldn’t be without. Traditionally, this is used to treat the signs of aging and it hugs the curves of my neck and face stimulating blood circulation while hitting acupressure points. It is cooling on the skin and used with oil is super relaxing and smoothing! I am obsessed and use this 3-4 nights a week. My other more long-term facial tool love is my Yu Ling Jade facial roller (medium) which has been a daily staple in my routine for almost three years now! This boosts circulation and really helps eliminate puffiness. It's cooling and relaxing and I find this with my gua sha really helps calm some major spots I get on my jawline, this literally flattens them overnight and really helps towards healing them for me!

Paulas choice bha review

Moving away from skincare for a minute, the Touch in SOL No Poreblem Primer* is my current makeup love. I often forget primer as with my favourite foundation (Estee Lauder Double Wear) it is not needed, however I have been trying to use up some of my less favourite foundations and primer is a must! This stuff is magic! It is so smoothing and good for a matte finish, it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin but most impressively it blurs fine lines and pores like no other! The difference is real! One of the best primers I have used!

Finally, one of my most recent skincare additions – the Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. I resisted this for the longest time and now I am kicking myself for denying myself and also for only buying the mini! I saw a noticeable difference in my skin the morning after I first used this, it is exfoliating but gentle, smoothing and clarifying! I will be purchasing the full size as soon as I run out even though I’m on a spending ban!

Overall, I think it’s clear to see I like my skin to look smooth lol and if you do too these products should be right up your street! Let me know if you have tried any of them and what you thought!

Product Empties #23

product empties reviews pixi omorovicza skin accumax

It’s that time again! Here are my most recent empties and some mini reviews!

bodycare empties rituals review soap and glory

Bodycare
Rituals The Ritual of Sakura foaming shower gel
This is my second bottle of this and won’t be the last! It smells amazing and feels so luxurious! It also lasts longer than expected and makes my skin feel so smooth. Will repurchase when I finish a few other shower gels! See my last review here!

Soap and Glory The Righteous Butter
An old favourite, there is always at least one Soap and Glory product in my empties I feel like! This is a rich, nourishing body moisturiser and I already have a backup!

Soap and Glory Hand Food
This is a lovely rich hand cream and the Original Pink scent is great! I find it a little greasy sometimes if I accidentally squeeze too much but that would be my only criticism! Already using a backup!

These were gifted to me years ago but I didn’t take everything with me to Canada so I finished this when I got home! I love Nivea hand creams and this is lightweight, sinks in quickly, smells fresh and keeps my hands hydrated. They are by far my favourite brand for hand cream but I haven’t repurchased just year as I have a few Soap and Glory ones I am going through at the minute!

skincare empties nivea pixi omorovicza

Skincare
Nivea Lotion
Is anyone sick of me talking about this yet? My absolute favourite for a first cleanse! This is creamy so it doesn’t drag your skin when you use a cotton pad and it gets off the majority of my makeup ready for my second cleanse with an oil or balm. Already have a backup but concentrating on my rather large stash of cleansers at the minute so will open at a later date!

Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser
One of my favourite morning cleansers! It’s got 5% glycolic acid so is very gently exfoliating and prepares my skin wonderfully for the rest of my routine. It never feels tight or dry after use and I already have a backup!

Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm
Another one of my favourite cleansers this time PM! This is a very luxurious balm that gets every last bit of makeup of why hydrating my skin and working to make it clearer. I will repurchase in the future! All three of these cleansers are talked about in more detail here!

Omorovicza Queen of Hungary mist
This has quite possibly got the have the best mist action of any facial mist I have owned! It's super fine and feels very refreshing but I prefer this as a makeup pick me up as opposed to a skincare step! I wouldn’t go out of my way to repurchase as there are other mists I prefer but I always enjoy using this up!

Skin Laundry Renewing Eye Cream
You guessed it, another fave haha! Creamy but lightweight and hydrating enough for both day and night I love this! It’s getting harder to find though – Cult Beauty seem to be discontinuing all my favourite brands, anyone else? I will repurchase in the future but I already have a couple of other eye creams on the go at the minute! See full review here!

Zitsticka
I usually forget about these things and while I did enjoy it these are way too expensive for me to repurchase for one off use!

Aurelia Cell Revitalise Night Moisturiser
A really nice hydrating overnight moisturiser, not one I love enough to repurchase though!

Glow Recipe Avocado Melt Sleeping Mask
Another nice overnight moisturiser but again nothing special and I won’t be repurchasing

Peter Thomas Roth Hungarian Thermal Water Minera Ric Atomic Heat mask
This was a really fun mask to use! I love how it felt when it heated up and my skin always felt so soft after using! Would repurchase!

Sunday Riley Good Genes
I don’t really get the hype over this product but this was a small sample and I probably should have used it more regularly. There are lots of other exfoliating porducts I get much better results from so not a repurchase for me!

Dermalogica Rapid Reveal Peel x3*
This made my skin feel so soft and look so glowy after use! It tingled slightly but didn’t leave my skin red even though it’s exfoliating! Would repurchase if coming up to an event!

haircare empties review OUAI bumble

Haircare
Schwarzkopf Got2Be Fresh it Up Texturising Dry Shampoo
I may have found a new favourite budget dry shampoo range! This one and its blue counterpart are great! Instantly make my hair less greasy but not dull either and give it some movement too! It was only about £2 aswell! Already have a spare of the blue!

Bumble and Bumble Bb Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer
Nice heat protectant but I don t love it, have used a few minis now but not one I would repurchase!

OUAI Scalp and Body Scrub
Loved this! As always with OUAI products the scent is incredible! This felt invigorating on my scalp and I will repurchase in the future!

buxom fresh bite beauty Dior review

Makeup
Buxom Full On Lip Cream in White Russian
Buxom are one of my favourite lip gloss brands! I loved this, it keeps my lips looking healthy but not too glossy and though its. A little sticky but not in a bad way! Will repurchase when I finish my 487 other lip products!

Fresh Sugar lip treatment
Way too melty and not hydrating enough for me! I have a few more shades of these to get through but I won’t be repurchasing!

Bite Beauty Agave lip balm
Loved this, keeps my lips hydrated for ages, already have a backup and will repurchase in the future!

Dior Addict Lip Maximiser
Another really nice gloss but prefer the Buxom so won’t be repurchasing!

skin accumax review

Miscellaneous
Advanced Nutrition Programme Skin Accumax
I don’t want to say too much about these yet as I haven’t finished the recommended 2 a day for 14 weeks just yet – let me know if you would be interested in reading a review on them when I have been taking them for longer though! First impressions are OK and I have repurchased another box!

Skin Owl Beauty Steam
This was leftover from a GWP years ago and I finally used it. I’m not one for steaming and I had a bit of a cold when I used this so got more benefits for my sinuses than my skin I think! Wouldn’t repurchase!

Wow, well done if you got to the end of that! Let me know if you see any of your favourites here or anything you’d like to try!
